Many of our cameras are equipped with a built-in microphone allowing audio to be recorded with the video feed. If audio recording is not required or conflicts with local recording laws, the feature can be turned off with a click of the mouse in the NVR software. Cameras equipped with a microphone and speaker provide two-way communication. This provides the user the ability to respond (in real-time) to events seen remotely on smart phones or tablets. The ability to respond to events in real-time is called Active Deterrence.
Usually, only cameras designed for wide area, up close viewing (wide angle views) are equipped with audio. Longe range zoom cameras usually do not have an audio option. Audio is effective up to 30 feet from the camera, a zoom lens is used for target areas past 60 feet. As you can see the two features appose each others intent.
